What is A.A.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem.  It doesn’t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem. A.A.’s primary purpose is to help alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

AA's 12-Step Program

The 12-step recovery model is a cornerstone in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Evidence supports the effectiveness of peer-to-peer support mutual aid organizations such as AA.

A study sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism examined the effectiveness of various treatment types in reducing overall drinking and drug use, and concluded that the 12-step model resulted in the most significant long-term impact.
